About

Chad Hultz is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, journalist, and leadership strategist who writes for We Are The Mighty with a focus on military culture, leadership under pressure, emerging defense technology, and the real-world impacts of policy and modernization on service members and veterans.

His reporting blends firsthand military experience with rigorous research and verification, translating complex topics into clear, accessible stories for a broad audience. Chad’s work emphasizes accountability, operational reality, and the human side of military service, especially where technology, leadership decisions, and institutional change intersect.

Outside of journalism, Chad is the founder of Outpost Strategy, where he advises leaders and organizations on decision-making, operational clarity, and leading without waiting for permission. He is also the creator of the Lead Without Permission™ leadership framework, which draws on military lessons and applies them to civilian leadership, teams, and organizations.

When he is not writing, Chad spends time outdoors in the Pacific Northwest, fly fishing, hiking, and exploring public lands. He is particularly interested in how service, leadership, and identity evolve after the uniform comes off and how stories can help bridge the civilian-military divide.
