"Top Gun: Maverick" brought the need for speed into the 21st century and introduced us to new naval aviators alongside the legendary Pete Mitchell. Now, "Battlefield 6" is bringing **both** the action and the actors to the game with "Top Gun: Carrier Strike." The new game mode is a rework of "Battlefield 2142’s" Titan Mode and "Battlefield 4’s" Carrier Assault, and promises even more excitement.

Narratively, "Carrier Strike" sees the Pax Armata aircraft carrier PXS Condor going up against the USS Grant aircraft carrier base in the Pacific islands of Tsuru Reef. Combat will take place across the map as both sides fight to launch strategic surface-to-surface missiles at each others’ carriers ahead of an all-out assault on the ship.

Fully revealed on August 13, 2026, Carrier Strike aims to create a more dynamic and strategic experience than the previous iterations while maintaining the land, sea, and air combat that the Battlefield franchise is known for.

“The past versions of this mode provided us with an excellent foundation to build from, so our goal was to preserve the gun and spectacle of a large-scale assault on an aircraft carrier, while adding new and exciting ways to get the job done,” gameplay designer Steve Cheverie said in the announcement. “With 'Carrier Strike,' we leaned into the combined arms aspect that makes 'Battlefield' so special, giving vehicles a more impactful role in directly damaging the carrier.”

In addition to SSMs, explosives, tank guns, and shoulder-fired launchers can inflict damage on an enemy carrier. But you can’t use the "Top Gun" name in your crossover without placing a gameplay emphasis on air combat. So jet bombs deal as much damage to carriers as SSMs. Autonomous anti-air adds a layer of complexity to a bombing run to counter the new aerial threats.

To accommodate 64 players and two carriers, however, "Battlefield" broke the mold with the map.

“Tsuru Reef is our largest map to date, providing an amazing play space for large-scale combined arms combat,” Cheverie said. “The layout incorporating both land and sea routes to the carriers and objectives really enabled us to bring vehicles to the forefront, adding a new twist to an old favorite.”

Further adding to the crossover’s immersion is the addition of Charles Parnell, [Lewis Pullman](<https://www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-movies/top-gun-maverick-behind-the-scenes/>), and Miles Teller. Reprising their roles from "Top Gun: Maverick," Warlock give mission updates as the battle progresses while Bob and Rooster provide in-cockpit communication during aerial combat.

The [cinematic reveal trailer](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dXuZXpSOTY>) acts like an immediate sequel to Maverick, with Warlock briefing the pilots on their mission. Bob and Rooster’s dialogue brings the same intensity from the movie, calling out missiles and enemy aircraft. Notably, Warlock directs the NATO forces to assault the Pax Armata carrier and destroy the first M-COM station.

“I’ll actually be the one giving orders in-game, which I love,” said Charles Parnell. “If it’s my voice that pushes players on to clutch a win, that’s awesome.”

Following the M-COM’s destruction and the opening of the blast doors to the second M-COM in the carrier’s reactor room, Bob and Rooster drop their bombs into the enemy ship and pull up at the last minute; straight out of the movie. Even one of the missile shots on an enemy fighter is straight from "Top Gun."

*Don’t think, just do. (EA)*

“Everything about 'Top Gun' is a perfect fit for 'Battlefield,' so this is a dream come true in many ways,” Cheverie shared. “I couldn’t be more proud of the team bringing those characters into our world. We’re headed to the Danger Zone in Season 4, and we hope you’ll join us!”

It’s certainly more fitting than a crossover with Kevin Durant or Nikki Minaj. "Battlefield 6 x Top Gun: Carrier Strike" releases on August 18, 2026 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
