Twelve runners representing Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) – America’s leading health and wellness community for the military-connected community – kicked off the first-ever Old Glory Ultra Relay on May 2 on the USS Midway. The mission? Set a world record for relaying a single American flag across the country while raising $1 million for Veteran health and wellness.
The 3,000-mile cross-country relay will see the veterans make history by carrying a single American flag while running 7-8 minute miles nonstop from San Diego to Washington, D.C., finishing at the future site of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial on the National Mall. The route spans diverse terrain, pushing the boundaries of endurance as runners maintain nonstop shifts. Each runner will carry the flag for approximately 62 miles during their eight-hour stint, with teams rotating consistently to ensure the flag is always on the move, day and night. The effort will set a record certified by the World Record Certification Agency for the “Fastest Time to Carry a Single Flag Across America (team of 12).”
The send-off ceremony at the USS Midway Museum included remarks by Team RWB staff and corporate sponsors, including Lee Wright, CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe.
In addition to celebrating the community, the Old Glory Ultra Relay is a major fundraising effort, with a $1 million goal to support Team RWB’s mission. Funds raised will enable the organization to continue providing impactful in-person and virtual events, training, and programs that improve Veterans’ health and wellness. With over 250,000 members across 150 chapters, Team RWB serves as a lifeline to the military-connected community, offering ongoing opportunities for connection, growth, and purpose.
