Do your knees hurt when you squat?

If I've said it once, I've said it at least 10 times the back squat is the one exercise you should be doing to get stronger, bigger, faster, live longer, and look sexier. It's that simple.

But sometimes our damn knees don't seem to agree. Luckily there's a lot you can do to make your knees a happy member of your lower body family.

Are your combat boots jacking up your feet?

What do you think of the combat boots currently worn by the Service? I think they're pretty BA. Great for kicking in doors, and stomping throats.

Turns out that may be the wrong way to look at our boots though...

When you compare the number of Spartan push-kicks and axe-stomps the average service member conducts during their career to the number of standard steps they take to get from the barracks to work it's astounding.

It's like one forcible entry for every 1 billion steps…..

I recently had the pleasure to read through the GoRuck Rucking White Paper. It's basically 18,000+ words on everything you could ever want to know about moving long distances with weight on your back. A topic I am fond of reminiscing about.

100 bodyweight squats vs 10 barbell squats

Why are you working out? That's always the first question you should be asking yourself. I've been asked on multiple occasions about the benefit of doing bodyweight exercises as a replacement for barbell training. Usually, they go something like this:

"Are bodyweight squats better than barbell back squatting?"

To which my response is usually something like:

"Better, how?"

If your goal for working out is to get better at bodyweight squats ...then sure, they're better.

If however, your goal is to increase muscle mass, (which it is 90% of the time, whether you realize it or not,) well then, probably not. The reasoning relies on a theory called "effective reps." But first!

So your joints 'creak' and 'pop'...big deal

It's time to kill this excuse for not training.

We're surrounded by machines: computers, cars, HVAC systems, TV's, lawnmowers, airplanes, etc. It's not crazy to start viewing our bodies in the same way that we view those machines. Mainly, if there is a noise, a weird vibration, or a "creak," or "pop" we've got a problem.

It turns out, you aren't a machine, and the research agrees that periodic or even reliable creaks and pops of the joints aren't death sentences or even guaranteed arthritis waiting to happen.
