Let’s talk about the Leopard 2. This might just be the ultimate battle tank. Developed by the German defense company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), the Leopard 2 has won the hearts of armies around the world. It’s easy to see why.

Here is what you need to know about the Leopard 2 tank


The Leopard 2’s turbocharged diesel engine packs a punch with 1500 horsepower. That means this beast can hit 72 km/h on roads and 50 km/h off-road. Oh, and it’s not afraid of getting its feet wet. It can tackle water up to four meters deep and navigate steep slopes and narrow trenches like a champ.

This tank can also traverse various terrains, including deep water up to four meters in depth. That’s to say nothing of climbing steep slopes or heading into narrow trenches. That’s because of its adaptable suspension and versatile design.


This tank has got its crew’s back. The tungsten and ceramic composite armor resists kinetic energy penetrators and shaped charge warheads like a boss. Plus, the spall liner keeps the crew safe from secondary fragments. Adding to top-level protection, the nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection system shields them from contamination.

As for firepower, the Leopard 2 is armed with a Rheinmetall 120mm L/44 smoothbore gun that fires a wide range of ammunition. Its Fire Control System (FCS) offers rapid and accurate targeting, making this tank a force to be reckoned with. And let’s not forget the gun stabilizer, which ensures deadly accuracy even when on the move.

The Leopard 2’s main weapon is the Rheinmetall 120mm L/44 smoothbore gun, capable of firing a variety of ammunition types.
