April is Month of the Military Child, and before the Padres game on Sunday, April 21, USAA, the Official Military Appreciation Partner of the San Diego Padres, gave away a vehicle to a deserving, active-duty sailor and single mother of two children, as part of their Recycled Rides Giveaway program.

The recipient, Petty Officer Olusola Smith, is currently without reliable transportation and faces challenges getting to and from work and her children’s activities. After receiving the gifted vehicle, and before the game began, Petty Officer Hopkins and her family were saluted during an on-field recognition ceremony.

The recipient of the vehicle was nominated by nonprofit organizations to receive a National Auto Body Council Recycled Ride® – a vehicle that is repaired and donated to those in need to provide reliable transportation. “We are honored to continue our support for veterans and their families through the NABC Recycled Rides program,” USAA Property and Casualty President Randy Termeer said in a news release. “These vehicles represent more than just transportation; they symbolize our gratitude for the sacrifices made by our service members.”

USAA recognizes the importance of reliable transportation in the lives of veterans and their families. Through the NABC Recycled Rides® program, USAA aims to make a meaningful difference by providing refurbished vehicles to those in need.

This year, USAA is thrilled to extend a hand up to four deserving military families, granting them the freedom and independence that comes with owning a dependable vehicle. Each NABC Recycled Ride® has been meticulously restored and inspected to ensure safety and reliability.

USAA’s Recycled Rides vehicle gifting coincides with the grand opening of the USAA Military Appreciation Zone and USAA Military Appreciation Gates at Petco Park, offering an elevated ball-park experience for service members, veterans and their families at Padres’ games. To recognize and honor our Armed Forces, the Padres have partnered with USAA to bring a Military Appreciation Zone to Petco Park during Sunday home games.

Before Sunday home games, active-duty service members, veterans and their families, and USAA Members will receive access to the USAA Military Appreciation Zone. Fans can enjoy food and drink specials from the time gates open until first pitch in the exclusive area at the top of the Home Plate Gate stairs.
